Throughout lockdown, we’ve been able to continue to service and repair our customer’s Porsches from across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and North London. Working practices have changed, where needed, to ensure that we are maintaining good hygiene.
However, as you would imagine, as Porsche mechanics and technicians our hands go from greasy to clean many times a day – working on Porsche engines with dirty hands to working in the cabin with clean hands and seat covers.
In this article we wanted to share with you some of our experiences of servicing and repairing numerous Porsche models throughout the lockdown period.
We are pleased to say that AMS Porsche has gone from strength to strength over the last 12 months, especially since our workshop expansion. At last count, we currently have over 40 different Porsche in and around the workshop.
We are delighted to be able to say that, all in all, we are 50% up on turnover over the last 12 months.
The expansion has been a massive success. We would like to say “thank you” to all our customers!
The Porsche models we’re working on include the usual mix of 996, 997 and Boxsters. We also have a number of 991 variants and 964 engine rebuilds as well as project cars.
Are DIY Porsche repairs a good idea?
We’ve found that some Porsche owners, during the lockdown, have taken it upon themselves to roll out their pride and joy, attempting to undertake maintenance or repairs. You know that nagging feeling; “maybe if I just tinker a little I could get the old girl back on the road”.
However, and unsurprisingly, some Porsche owners have become unstuck, not being able to complete the work with any great success. The range of issues being uncovered included; finding other faults they were unable to deal with, or, not getting it quite right while undertaking repairs on the faults that were found.
It was at this point that they called AMS Porsche for help and, in some cases, to step in and save the day!
What owners failed to recognise is, every Porsche is an incredibly sophisticated and complex piece of machinery. It takes years of training and experience to be able to be able to repair, service and maintain a Porsche to the highest of levels. Naturally, we have been more than happy to ensure that each DIY Porsche owner was back on the road in no time.
If you’re a Porsche owner thinking about DIY maintenance and repairs, we would recommend a health check on your Porsche, no matter what age or model, before considering undertaking any work yourself.
Saturday Surgery
Our new Saturday Surgery is the ideal time to bring your Porsche in for a free consultation. We can expertly assess the car, advise on repair requirements and help establish a longer term picture for your Porsche.
It appears that lockdown has also given people the extra free time to consider purchasing a Porsche. We found that a lot of people have been searching the sales ads for the Porsche of their dreams and asking AMS for health checks, or pre-purchase inspections / advice. There have also been occasions that we have been asked to fix purchases that haven’t been quite as good as the adverts have made out.
“Buyers beware” or alternatively “buyer ask for AMS to check the Porsche over first”!
